What leaves your PC
Last updated 14 October 2026
Mural has no account, no analytics and no telemetry. It does not phone home with usage data, crash reports or identifiers. Your wallpapers, pictures and settings live in your Windows user profile as plain files (scenes are JSON plus the pictures you imported). This page lists every case where something does leave your PC.
Live widgets
- Weather asks a weather service for the forecast of the city you set (by default, the main city of your time zone). The request contains the city name, not your precise location.
- Quote fetches a quote from the quote service you pick (ZenQuotes by default).
- Photo feed downloads pictures from the feed address you entered.
- Web wallpaper loads the page you entered in an isolated session with downloads, popups, permission prompts and sound blocked. The page has no access to Mural, your files or your settings.
Update checks
Mural checks GitHub (the mural-releases repository) for a newer installer. This is a plain download request; it carries no identifier beyond what any HTTP request carries. Checks are skipped on battery.
AI tools
Nothing is uploaded unless you press an AI button. Each tool sends only what it needs:
- Edit with AI sends the wallpaper's layer list (names, positions, colours and settings, no pictures) and your instruction to Anthropic.
- Improve prompt sends your idea to Anthropic and gets a stronger prompt back.
- Generate sends your prompt (not a picture) to Stability AI. If you then upscale for a 4K canvas, the generated image is sent to Stability AI.
- Remove background and Generative fill send that picture to Stability AI.
- Animate from a picture uploads that picture to fal.ai, which hosts it on a temporary public link while the clip renders. Animating from a prompt first sends the prompt to Stability AI to make a still, then uploads that generated still to fal.ai on a temporary public link in the same way.
With Mural Pro, these requests go through Mural's own relay so you never handle API keys. The relay forwards the request to the provider and does not keep your prompts or pictures. Keyed to your license key, it stores: your plan and billing day (cached for 10 minutes), credit counts per billing period (kept about two months), the last 40 charges and refunds (the operation, its cost, the time and the job id, nothing about the content; the log is deleted 90 days after your last AI use), animation job records for up to 6 hours, and a welcome-credit record that marks whether the key has received its free credits. To delete this data, open a GitHub issue or reply to your receipt with the license key. With your own API keys, requests go straight from your PC to the provider and the relay is not involved at all.
The providers handle that data under their own policies: Anthropic, Stability AI and fal.ai.
Payments
Mural Pro is sold by Lemon Squeezy, the merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects your email and payment details, issues the license key and handles taxes, invoices and refunds under the Lemon Squeezy privacy policy. Mural never sees your card. The app stores your license key locally and sends it to Mural's relay only to check your plan and spend credits.
This website
This site is static and hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It sets no cookies and loads no analytics or third-party scripts. Cloudflare may keep standard server logs to run the service.
Your data, your PC
Uninstalling Mural removes the app. Your wallpapers and settings stay in your user profile until you delete that folder. There is no account on our side; the relay records listed above (keyed to your license key) are deleted on request, and the welcome-credit record is kept for as long as the license exists so the credits cannot be claimed twice.
